Oahu Coastal Getaway Tour
Tour ID: OONT-35
Duration: 5 hours
Location: Oahu, Hawaii
Leaves from: major hotels in the Waikiki area
At times the busy cities of Honolulu and Waikiki can get a little too noisy and crowded. On the Low Coast of Oahu Adventure we'll take you away from all of this and get you out to the coastal areas of the island. Here you'll find a little more peace, space, and all of the hidden beauties that you can imagine. The respite is intoxicating.
First you'll be dazzled by what the natives call Lanakai, meaning ''heavenly sea.'' It's a quiet beach of turquoise and green surrounded by lush tropical foliage. Palm Trees and fine sand add to the ''heavenly'' feel. Twin islands Mokumanu and Mokulua nearby, offer a wonderful sanctuary for tropical native and migrating birds, as well as boaters and folks having picnics. Bird watchers find this place to be an outstanding location for spotting some of the most exotic birds on the planet. Birds aren't the only species you can find out here so general nature lovers also discover spectacular finds. Many of these creatures won't be found inland, so this opportunity to view them is truly unique.
Next our journey heads north along the shoreline for a glimpse of Popia Island. Also called Flat Island, it is made up of flat limestone and plays home to Hawaii's endemic red shrimp. Not far from here Nu'u Pia Pond and Coconut Island are both found. Here is where the University of Hawaii conducts its research, in a marine biology research laboratory known as Mokuoloe. It's an incredible facility you'll be happy you had the chance to witness.
We'll take you to Chinaman's Hat after this but on the way we'll pass by Kane'ohe Bay. Here resides the Marine Corp's Hawaii Base and the Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens.
Then we will stop at Moli'i fish pond where an 800 year old aquacultural phenomenon exists. Hawaiians have been harvesting fish here for centuries. It is located on Kualoa Ranch. Considered a sacred land, the movie ''Jurassic Park'' was filmed here. Also while here, you'll be please to visit a local flower and macadamia nut farm. You'll have the special opportunity to sample the prized nuts as well as the famous Kona coffee. Chinaman's Hat is just around the corner from here off Kaneohe Bay. You'll recognize the tiny island as you approach. It's called Chinaman's Hat because of its resemblance to the straw hats worn by Chinese immigrants. The island is made of about 2.5 acres of basalt and was once part of the island of Oahu. Erosion occurred and it is now cut off.
Your tour will end with a pleasurable visit to a local orchid farm. Here you'll once again be dazzled by the beauty of the land. Admire the assortment of these immensely gorgeous flowers. It's truly a site worthy of remembrance. The entire Low Coast of Oahu Adventure is a spectacular tour. It will leave you feeling overwhelmed with pleasure and full of memories that you and your group will never forget.
